NORMAL, Ill. — The Bellarmine men’s tennis team racked up 11 wins at the Redbird Invitational this weekend in Normal, Ill.

In addition to Bellarmine and host Illinois State – DePaul, Marquette, UIC, Eastern Illinois, Saint Louis, and Drake competed in the three-day tournament.


Five Knights players picked up at least a win over the weekend and four Bellarmine players had multiple victories.  Junior Emil B. Berglund and freshman Jack Batchelor each had four wins.


Berglund started off with a doubles win against Illinois State and followed it up with a singles win in straight sets against Illinois State.  On Saturday, Berglund posted a doubles victory against Saint Louis and singles win versus the Billikens.


Batchelor started with a singles victory against Illinois State on Friday, then had doubles and singles wins against Marquette on Saturday, followed by a three-set singles win against UIC on Sunday.


Junior Paul Reynolds recorded a pair of Saturday wins in singles and doubles action against Marquette.  Michael Staff also defeated Marquette in singles and doubles, with his two victories coming on Sunday.


Donovan Ecarma was the other Knight to post a win this weekend, taking a doubles match against Marquette on Sunday alongside Staff.

The Knights are back on the court Oct. 15-17 across town at the Louisville Invitational hosted by the Cardinals.
