NOTES TO KNOW
• Eastern Illinois hosts Murray State for the Panthers final game of the 2021 season. EIU will honor its 14 seniors/graduate student players prior to the game with the Racers. The Panthers are coming off a bye week following a 42-26 loss at Austin Peay on Nov. 6 in the final road game of the year. EIU enters at 1-9 overall, 1-4 in the OVC. Murray State has won two straight as the Racers enter at 5-5, 2-3 in the OVC. The preseason OVC favorite, Murray State is looking to lock up a second straight winning season.
• Eastern Illinois defense had three fumble recoveries in the Nov. 6 game against Austin Peay as the Panthers had four total turnovers gained in the contest. EIU is currently second in the FCS in fumbles recovered this season with 12 trailing only Alcorn State with 16. Linebacker Jason Johnson has three fumble recoveries to rank first in the nation while Bryce Dewberry is 11th with two fumble recoveries including a 90-yard fumble return for touchdown at Tennessee Tech. This season EIU has 16 total turnovers gained which ranks third in the OVC, 53rd in the FCS.
• Isaiah Hill turned in his second straight standout performance at Austin Peay as he caught ten passes for 140 yards and a touchdown. Hill had caught 11 passes for 207 yards in the previous game at Southeast Missouri. In just four games played this season after returning from injury, Hill is already the Panthers leading receiver with 26 receptions and 383 yards. He now has 952 yards in his EIU career needing 48 yards to become the 34th EIU player to collect 1,000 yards receiving in his career. The last EIU player with back-to-back double figure reception games was Alexander Hollins during the 2018 season. The last EIU player with back-to-back 100-yard receiving games was also Hollins during the 2018 season (4 straight 100-yard games).
• Defensive back Tyris Harvey had his first career interception against Austin Peay as the second year player picked off a pass in the first quarter and returned it 29 yards for a touchdown. Harvey has played in all ten games this season making five starts. He has 27 tackles with one tackle for loss. Harvey has added four pass break-ups on the year. The last EIU player to return an interception for a touchdown was Mark Williams who scored on a pick six during the spring season at Murray State.
