ICC Women’s World Cup 2025: India to Host, BCCI Announces Venues, Pakistan’s Participation Uncertain

India Gears Up for a Major Cricket Event

Indian cricket fans have an exciting tournament to look forward to this year as the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 is set to take place in the country. Scheduled for September, this edition of the prestigious tournament will not be hosted in traditional cricketing hubs like Mumbai, Delhi, or Chennai. Instead, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has selected five alternative cities to host the matches, bringing top-tier women’s cricket to new locations and audiences.

Five Venues Finalized for the Tournament

On March 22, just before the opening ceremony of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in Kolkata, the BCCI’s Apex Council held a crucial meeting. One of the key discussions revolved around the upcoming Women’s World Cup. While India had already secured the hosting rights, decisions regarding the venues and the tournament window were pending. The BCCI has now confirmed September as the tournament month and finalized five cities to host the matches.

List of Selected Cities

According to reports, due to the scheduling of the Indian men’s team and domestic cricket commitments, the board has selected five alternative venues. The chosen cities are:

  • Visakhapatnam
  • Indore
  • Mullanpur
  • Thiruvananthapuram
  • Guwahati

Visakhapatnam has been earmarked as the primary venue, where the opening ceremony, the first match, and the final will be held. However, the final approval from the International Cricket Council (ICC) is still pending. Once the venues receive ICC’s confirmation, the complete tournament schedule will be finalized in collaboration with BCCI.

India’s Fourth Time Hosting the Women’s World Cup

India will be hosting the ICC Women’s World Cup for the fourth time, marking another milestone in the country’s rich cricketing history. The tournament was previously held in India in 1978, 1997, and 2013. However, this will be the first time in over a decade that the nation will once again serve as the host. With growing interest in women’s cricket and a strong fanbase, India is expected to deliver an exciting and well-organized event. The selection of new venues also highlights BCCI’s commitment to expanding the reach of the women’s game across different regions of the country.

India’s Quest for a Maiden Title

The Indian women’s cricket team is yet to win the tournament, despite coming close in 2005 and 2017, where they finished as runners-up. In the most recent edition in 2022, India reached the semifinals but couldn’t progress further. With the home advantage this time, the team will be hoping to clinch their first-ever ICC Women’s World Cup title.
