Eastern Illinois closes out the EKU Hoops Invitational presented by Geneva Financial with a Wednesday afternoon game against UAlbany. The Panthers lost their opening round game of the Invitational on Monday evening with a high turnover and cold shooting performance against host Eastern Kentucky. EIU was held to a season low 43 points falling to 1-4 on the season with an 82-43 loss. UAlbany wraps up an extended stay in the Bluegrass State as the Great Danes lost at EKU on Saturday night before facing nationally ranked Kentucky on Monday night in Lexington. UAlbany lost that game to the Wildcats 86-61 to fall to 0-5 on the season. EKU beat UAlbany 77-44 on Saturday evening.
FIELD GOAL DEFENSE STILL SOLID
Eastern Illinois offense had a cold night shooting as the Panthers finished hitting 26 percent from the field against Eastern Kentucky. The EIU defense did finish the night holding the Colonels to just 39 percent shooting from the floor, the second straight game EIU has held an opponent below 40 percent shooting in a game. For the season EIU is holding its opponents to 41.5 percent shooting from the floor which is currently tied for first in the Ohio Valley Conference.
ROBINSON STEADY ON THE ASSIST
Guard Chris Robinson has been steady handling the ball off the bench as he finished with a team high four assists on Monday at Eastern Kentucky. It was Robinson’s third straight game with three or more assists off the bench as he is averaging 2.6 assists per game. He has an assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.4 for the season. He added a season high four rebounds at EKU while his best scoring total this season was seven against Rockford.
