LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Bellarmine men’s tennis team will play 3.7 miles away from campus at the Louisville Invitational this weekend.
Hosted by the University of Louisville, the invitational is Bellarmine’s third event this fall – like the others, it will run Friday through Sunday. Bellarmine, Louisville, Indiana, Kentucky, Purdue, Toledo, and East Tennessee State are the participants in the tournament.
The indoor and outdoor courts at the Bass-Rudd Tennis Center will be utilized over the weekend. Starting at 9:00 a.m. on Friday, the teams will play two rounds of singles and a round of doubles. There will three singles flights and two doubles flights.
Doubles play beginning on Friday will feature Simeon Kostov and Donovan Ecarma facing Nishanth Basavareddy and Mac Rogers (Indiana) at 9:00 a.m. followed by a matchup with Pawit Sornlaksup and Vlad Meluta (Toledo) at 9:45 a.m. Emil B. Berglund and Michael Staff will also compete in doubles against Sornlaksup and Meluta at 9:00 a.m. Another 9:00 a.m. pairing is Jack Batchelor and Paul Reynolds who will face Yasha Zemel and Jonathan Sorbo (Kentucky).
Singles matchups feature Batchelor against Sorbo (Kentucky), Kostov versus David Mizrahi (Louisville), Reynolds playing Ilya Tiraspolsky (Indiana), Berglund against Rogers (Indiana), Staff versus Sebastian Welch (Purdue), and Donovan Ecarma playing Juan Lombisano (East Tennessee State).
LAST TIME OUT:
Last weekend, Bellarmine racked up 11 wins at the Redbird Invitational in Normal, Ill.
Five Knights players picked up at least a win over the weekend and four Bellarmine players had multiple victories. Berglund and freshman Batchelor each had four wins.
Berglund started off with a doubles win against Illinois State and followed it up with a singles win in straight sets against Illinois State. On Saturday, Berglund posted a doubles victory against Saint Louis and singles win versus the Billikens.
Batchelor started with a singles victory against Illinois State on Friday, then had doubles and singles wins against Marquette on Saturday, followed by a three-set singles win against UIC on Sunday.
Reynolds recorded a pair of Saturday wins in singles and doubles action against Marquette. Staff also defeated Marquette in singles and doubles, with his two victories coming on Sunday.
Ecarma was the other Knight to post a win this weekend, taking a doubles match against Marquette on Sunday alongside Staff.
Berglund tops the Knights with eight wins this season – four doubles and four singles victories. Berglund has led Bellarmine with four total wins in each of the last two tournaments.
Batchelor is not far behind, tallying seven wins this season. Batchelor had three singles victories in the Toledo Rocket Invitational followed by three singles wins and a doubles victory at the Redbird Invitational last weekend.
Following the Louisville Invitational this weekend, Bellarmine has just one more tournament in the calendar year. The Knights will compete in the CCB Collegiate Invite Nov. 5-7 in Birmingham, Ala.
