Daniel Ricciardo has been handed a a few-put grid penalty for impeding Alpine’s Esteban Ocon in qualifying – the McLaren driver set to commence 14th on Sunday.
Ricciardo capable 12th, each McLarens lacking out on Q3 as crew mate Lando Norris took 11th on the grid, but the Australian was observed to have received in Ocon’s way for the duration of the Frenchman’s traveling lap at the commence of Q2.
“The Stewards listened to from the driver of Car 3 (Daniel Ricciardo), the driver of Vehicle 31(Esteban Ocon) and staff representatives, and examined online video, crew radio evidence and uncovered that Vehicle 3 impeded Vehicle 31,” read through the Stewards’ ruling.
Ricciardo was not warned by his team that Ocon was on a quick lap, and Ocon admitted that his “general effectiveness” was not affected by the aborted lap.
Still, the Stewards ruled the higher than “irrelevant” and handed Ricciardo a 3-place penalty, and a single penalty position – McLaren obtaining been offered a 10,000 EUR fine for the incident.
