The NHL may have just returned from its extended Christmas break, but there was no lack of news out of the league’s return. Here’s a look at three things we liked from the 12th week of the NHL campaign:
Arizona and San Jose provided us with firewagon hockey
Coming out of the extended holiday break for the NHL, did many people expect the Sharks and Coyotes to produce one of the highest-scoring games of the season?
San Jose’s 8-7 shootout win over Arizona on Dec. 29 saw a dozen different skaters combined score which included the Coyotes Andrew’s Ladd game-tying goal with just over a minute left in regulation to make it a 7-7 game.
A game like this is fun if you like goals, but I guarantee you hate if you’re a crease king.
Tony X and John Hamm: The meeting of hockey icons happened
On the ice, the Blues beat the Wild 6-4 in the coldest outdoor NHL game of all time. But off the ice from the game, two of the most well-known St. Louis Blues fans of the game came together for the first time.
Tony X (@soloucity on Twitter), the die-hard Blues fan who became a fan of the sport with the help of social media, met up with Hollywood A-lister Jon Hamm – who actually knew who Tony X was.
There is no word on if Hamm offered Tony offered a role in an upcoming movie or television series but most hockey fans would tune in for that..
Mark Giordano scored on his old friends from Calgary
The Seattle Kraken’s biggest expansion draft get was long-time Calgary Flames captain Mark Giordano. After scoring against the Flames in the pre-season, Giordano, who wore the C for eight years, finally did it in the regular season. It’s been a tough season for the Kraken, but that was a cool story for the team’s inaugural “C” man.
