Panthers Host Mighty Oaks
Eastern Illinois women’s basketball will host the Oakland City Mighty Oaks on Monday, November 22. The Panthers are off to a 3-0 start to the season, their best start since the 2011-12 season. The Mighty Oaks come to Charleston with an overall record of 2-3. Tipoff is set for noon CT.
The Panthers were triumphant in a dramatic 85-74 overtime home win over Evansville. Lariah Washington scored a team-high 25 points, including seven in the second overtime period, on 7-of-14 shooting from the field and grabbed six rebounds. Abby Wahl notched her sixth career double-double, scoring 16 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Morgan Litwiller notched her first career double-double, scoring 13 points and recording a team-high and career-high 12 rebounds. Kira Arthofer scored a career-high tying 16 and Jordyn Hughes contributed with 10.
Player To Watch
Abby Wahl has lived up to her star billing this year, notching her sixth career double-double in the win over Evansville and just missing out on one against Indiana State with 17 points and eight rebounds. She is second on the team in points per game with 13.0 and leads the team in rebounds per game with 7.0. At 923 career points, she is just 77 points away from becoming the 26th player in school history to score 1,000 career points.
Scouting the Mighty Oaks
Oakland City is coached by second-year head coach FahKara Hawkins. The Mighty Oaks are led in scoring by sophomore Guard Emilee Hope, who is averaging 12.8 points per game, and junior Center Jalaya Dowell, who is averaging 12 points and six rebounds per game.
The Panthers will head to Honolulu for the University of Hawaii Tournament. EIU will play their first match of the tournament against the Hawaii Rainbow Wahine on Friday, November 26. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30pm CT.
